It had been another week that has brought uncertainty to the Sixfields Stadium, with the announcement that Northampton Town's players will be paid late, although this has not meant that they have abandoned the opportunity to accumulate more league points.
Cobblers' Chief Executive James Whiting had warned that the players' wages would probably be paid late in the course of a press conference at the beginning of this week, and sadly, those fears have now been realised.
Last week, a separate winding-up order against the company was made by the Buckingham Group in Birmingham who were developing the Land East Stand. They claim to be owed about 3 million for the work that they have done.
The club says that all of the players have traveled by bus to Newport as normal. "Players are prepared for the game at Newport County as normal tomorrow," a club spokesman told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.
Chairman David Cardoza said the intention was selling the club to Kelvin Thomas, the ex-Oxford United chairman. The Northampton supporters' trust has launched an appeal to raise funds in the hope of generating 100,000 to provide additional temporarily funding for the club.
In December 2008, the current Cobblers boss Chris Wilder was appointed. Prior to joining Northampton he had been the manager at Oxford.
Since the appointment of Chris Wilder, the Cobblers have had a good run. They have secured 44 wins, losing just 29 games in comparison over the same period and having drawn the other 14 matches that they have played.
